jeans are pants, or trousers, made from denim. mainly designed for work, they became popular among teenagers starting in the 1950s. historic brands include levi’s and wrangler. jeans are now a very popular form of casual dress around the world, and have been so for decades. they come in many styles and colors; however, “blue jeans” are particularly identified with american culture, especially the american old west. the american population spent more than $14 billion on jeans in 2004.[1] trousers made from corduroy or canvas are sometimes incorrectly called jeans. however, traditionally the word “jeans” referred to trousers made exclusively out of denim.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009Passion for fashion runs in the jeans
Monday, September 21st, 2009it’s hard to throw away your favourite pair of jeans once the holes start appearing, especially if they cost £200 from a fashion store. this sentimentality for denim has resulted in a worthwhile sideline for manchester-based james personal tailor & son. three months ago michael pendlebury, pictured, who runs the firm with his father james, set up a website offering to repair jeans — and now trousers are arriving at their cross street office and workshop from as far away as dubai. the younger pendlebury, who joined his father’s business ten years ago at the age of 16, has now branched out as thedenimdoctor.co.uk. he said: “i’ve always done alterations and repairs including jeans for friends and a few customers, but that’s it. i’d been thinking about expanding denim repairs for a while but wondered if there was a call for it. “i knew there was a nucleus of customers in manchester that liked what we do and i was browsing on the internet and found a couple of repair companies in america, but no one in the uk who does it to this degree.” since the site went live 12 weeks ago pendlebury estimates he’s repaired about 400 pairs of jeans, charging an average of £15. james personal tailor & son had a turnover of £300,000 in the year to april 30, 2009. pendlebury said: “there are a couple of english lads, expats from dubai, and another in qatar who sent me their jeans. it cost me about £40 in postage just to send them back. i have been surprised how fast it’s growing considering it’s only been going three months. “i think pretty much everyone wears jeans now, no matter who you are, and i think at some point everyone has a favourite pair of jeans they don’t want to bin. if i become a bit more well-known and the word spreads, then it could become really big.” sam moylan runs night classes teaching basic clothing alteration in manchester and also has her own alterations business. she is often asked to turn up jeans by people who have bought a pair for their look and waist measurements even though the legs are too long. she said: “they’re something that people value because some jeans cost so much. i am turning up jeans straight from the shop and some have cost £200. you don’t want to throw those away just because they’ve got a hole in the bottom. jeans are highly prized.”
Nikkei seen range-bound in cautious trade; Aiful eyed
Saturday, September 19th, 2009tokyo’s nikkei average is expected to move narrowly on friday after u.s. stocks took a breather following a rally, with trade also seen cautious ahead of a five-day holiday in japan. aiful corp will likely draw attention after the nikkei business daily reported the japanese consumer lender plans to ask sumitomo trust and banking co and other banks to suspend repayments on about 290 billion yen ($3.2 billion) in debt to next march. “trade will likely be mixed ahead of the five-day holiday and as we approach the end of the second quarter here,” said hiroichi nishi, general manager of equity marketing at nikko cordial securities. “there are also concerns about comments by some of the new government officials, though the new government just took power and as a whole we need about three months to examine its direction.” shizuka kamei, the new minister for banking and market regulation, has said he would like to introduce a moratorium on some loan repayments to help small and midsize businesses and individuals struggling from the economic downturn, sending bank shares lower. nikkei futures traded in chicago closed at 10,455 on thursday, up 0.7 percent from the osaka close.
The Ugly Truth: Jeans
Friday, September 18th, 2009i am supposed to be packing and getting ready for london. that headache + work + excessive heat are, in part, to blame for my lack of updates. i have been super stressed about moving. also, kinda hot and lazy. i promise to do better in the future though, and my current goal, starting possibly next week is to update 3-4 times a week with 2-3 outfits and 1-2 stuff i like posts talking about trends or random clothes or collections or bloggers/blogs i like. today’s entry is sort of a combination of stuff i wore and stuff i like. since i’m jetting off halfway around the world, my very generous mother told me to buy another pair of jeans. i don’t know if it is because i am californian, american, or just a personal quirk, but i love jeans and i wear them pretty much daily, especially when i feel lazy, which is ironic because jeans are harder to make chic/nice-looking than a cute dress, but old habits die hard. my problem, however, is that i am very picky about my jeans. i don’t like some cuts. okay i don’t like most cuts. you will rarely see me in anything besides skinny-cut jeans on this blog. i do own one pair of really cute trouser-cut jeans and a pair of bootleg jeans and oh god i am suddenly realizing they may not fit any more as i recently have lost weight. whoops!
Jennifer Garner plays hard in PRVCY jeans
Thursday, September 17th, 2009i love jennifer garner. i really do. i have many fashion icons in the celebrity world, but in all honesty, it’s jennifer who speaks to me most because despite being a celebrity, she just looks like your average ╟ and normal ╟ mom she was spotted recently playing with her oldest daughter, violet affleck, running around in completely casual clothing, not worrying about picture-perfect makeup, wearing a ball cap, and just having a good time instead of dressing to the nines in the case of a paparazzi moment. that’s why i love her. when i do the school drop-off and pick-up with my daughter, i’m not dressed up ╟ i’m wearing jeans and t-shirts just like jen. for me it’s just more practical (and comfortable that way). get jennifer’s jeans … jen was running around on the grass, playing tag in a pair of prvcy premium jeans. she chose the malibu hills boot cut style and they’re both comfortable and flattering, just what a woman needs!

Moto a la Mode
Unless you’ve been hiding out in a trend-proof cave, you already know distressed denim is all the rage. Whether it’s bleached or shredded, jeans are tough this season. But destroyed detailing isn’t the only way to add some edge to your denim. Motocross influence is making its way in. Just look at the leather jackets that are all over the place these days. Lucky magazine featured the moto style as one of this year’s denim must-haves.
The ever-spectacular Balmain created a pair of moto-inspired jeans earlier this year, but at over $2000, who can afford to indulge in the look? Luckily Black Orchid came along and produced the perfect pair. How much do you love the stitching detail above the knees?
Biker Babe
Black Orchid is making strides towards becoming the new ‘It’ jean. Celebs like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and Jessica Alba are all about them. They have a knack for pumping out pairs that are perfectly on trend. Not to mention they fit great and have the ability to give the wearer a superhuman dose of confidence.
If you decide to grab a pair for yourself (which I highly recommend), here’s a few ways to wear them:
By day, balance the tough detailing with something simple and feminine.
Try topping a basic tee with a pretty printed scarf, like this floral number from Tolani.
Finish things off by adding a bag with a pop of color.
